AIA West Virginia Scholarships
The architectural profession depends on graduates to be our future’s leaders and conquer challenges that lay ahead for the profession. AIA West Virginia supports architectural education and awards a total of $15,000.00 in scholarships to West Virginia residents that are pursuing a career in Architecture. National AIA has supplemented an amount (as much as $4000 and as little as $1500) annually which is included in this total. Scholarships are available for students enrolled in accredited and non-accredited architectural programs. Students may request an application after January 31. Completed applications are due May 30 each year. Awards are distributed at year end.
AIAWV each year awards a single or multiple scholarships totaling $12,500.00 to a deserving West Virginia resident(s) who has completed by May 30th at least their sixth semester (junior year) of an accredited architectural program. This amount includes the grant from National AIA as well as a $1500.00 annual grant from CMA Engineering, given in memorial to their late founder, Floyd Clingenpeel, P.E. The Clingenpeel award goes to an architectural student who demonstrates his or her ability to develop project concepts utilizing sustainable principles, alternative energy systems or new technologies for environmental systems.
In addition, AIAWV Awards a $1500.00 and $1000.00 scholarship annually to students enrolled at Fairmont State University in a 4 year Bachelor of Science of Architecture program. The school designates a design competition and the entries are judged and displayed at the AIA West Virginia annual meeting in November.
